NEW: Atlanta Summer Community Crew Leader (SCA and The Nature Conservancy)

The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire Metro Atlanta students for the Atlanta Summer Community programs.

Program Dates

  • Program Dates: June 7 - July 16, 2021
  • Virtual Leader Training: May 24 - 28, 2021
  • In-Person Paid Local Training: June 1 - 4, 2021 (mandatory)

Primary Responsibilities

As Crew Leader, you will be working to guide and inspire a team of six high school aged youth (15-17) from the metro Atlanta, GA area. The crew will be working on projects such as habitat restoration, litter abatement, community engagement, and trail work with The Nature Conservancy focusing on sites in the South River Watershed. Leader will be responsible for incorporating environmental education curriculum. Project monitoring and data collection will also be required throughout the season.

As Crew Leader, you will be working with a co-lead to guide and inspire a team of ten high school aged youth (14 –19) from the metro Atlanta, GA area. This is an affinity crew for self-identified African American youth. The crew will be working on projects such as invasive species removal, habitat restoration, litter abatement, and trail work in various sites throughout local National Park Service sites (including, but not limited to, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, MLK National Historic Park, and Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area). Leaders will be responsible for incorporating environmental education curriculum. Project monitoring and data collection will also be required throughout the season.

THE APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE 2021 ATLANTA High School SUMMER PROGRAM IS NOW OPEN.

SCA’s 2021 Atlanta High School Summer Program will have an affinity crew for self-identifying African American high school members, aged 14-19, working in natural areas throughout the Metro Atlanta region. The crews will work Monday through Friday each week during the summer program. Members work 34 hours per week.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 14 years of age to participate in high school programs. Members must be currently in high school or recent high school graduates. Selected applicants that will be under the age of 16 by the program start date will need a Workers Permit to be hired by the SCA.   • Earn up to $2,720 (pre-tax).
  • Uniform and Boots Provided.
  • Program runs June 7, 2021 to July 30, 2021.
  • Work 34 hrs/week, Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm (*includes one half hour unpaid lunch break); Fridays 7:30 am - 11:30 am (these days have the potential to be in-person or virtual environmental education half-days) 
  • Work in local National Park sites doing hands-on work. 
  • Obtain valuable work-skills and green jobs training.
  • Work in beautiful outdoor settings and make lifelong friends!
  • Work on teams with other High School team members (with 2 adult team leaders 21+)
  • Serve to give back and better your local communities and natural areas.
  • If accepted into the program you MUST be available for the ENTIRE length of the eight-week program!
