Successful candidate will serve as a Wilderness Ranger patrolling trails in Wilderness areas and adjoining backcountry within the beautiful Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest on the Skykomish Ranger District in Washington state. Almost 2/3rds of the Skykomish Ranger District is in designated Wilderness. 

Work will include maintaining trails, backcountry campsites, signs, toilets and other facilities along trails at Wilderness lakes and other popular destinations in the Wilderness, 60%; assisting visitors and providing educational information about low impact (leave no trace) backcountry skills, 30%; monitoring conditions and collecting information needed by Wilderness managers,10%.

  • The intern will go through the orientation and training given to seasonal employees on the Ranger District. SCA interns will be mentored by experienced Wilderness Rangers and other employees on the Skykomish Ranger District.
  • Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest abounds with outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year. Seattle, Tacoma and Bellingham have diverse educational and cultural venues including major universities, museums, theaters, sports facilities, etc.
