Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized or FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.

Join the staff at Hovenweep National Monument in providing outstanding service to the public and preserving the land entrusted to us. Hovenweep is home to six groups of ancestral Puebloan ruins placed in the iconic southeastern Utah high desert. Work consists of staffing the visitor center (50%) where you will be greeting and orienting visitors from around the world, providing them with information and interpretation of the resources found here, and making bookstore/entrance fee sales. 30% of your time will be devoted to interpretive media projects, including updating and enhancing content on the park website/app, assisting with the development of interpretive and informational signs, and developing social media posts. You will also provide a regular overlook and trail patrol presence to assist visitors, monitor trail and archaeological site conditions, occasionally assisting with resource management and maintenance projects (15%). The remaining 5% of your time will be spent working on various special projects.

Compensation:
  • $250 - weekly living allowance
  • $1,100 - round trip travel allowance

  • Utah’s remote Hovenweep National Monument features outstanding archaeological resources,
    canyon trails, and an incredibly dark night sky. Hovenweep is about 40 miles from Cortez, Colorado, which provides full shopping, dining, and recreation services.
  • Media development, NPS graphic identity, Adobe Creative Suite, photography. Other possible training opportunities include cross-training with other divisions.
  • Hovenweep National Monument is located within two-hours drive of three National Parks (Canyonlands, Arches, Mesa Verde), three National Monuments (Natural Bridges, Bears Ears, and Canyons of the Ancients) and two Tribal Parks.
