The intern will be responsible for a variety of duties in the following fields, including but not limited to environmental education, visual information, and records management.

30% Responsible for photo storage management and creating infographics and publications for outreach under close supervision from the Visual Information Specialist. Assist with social media campaign management. Must be proficient in multimedia uses, preferably Adobe Creative Suite.

30% The selected individual will help coordinate and instruct at two remote culture and science camps for Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge and Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Henshaw Creek Science Camp hosted by Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge is located alongside a fish monitoring weir that serves as an outdoor classroom for youth in grades 5-12th. The remote camp teaches western science while also instilling traditional knowledge from local elders. Camp Goonzhii, meaning “wisdom and knowledge” in Gwich’in, is hosted by Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This 3-day camp serves youth in grades K-12. The individual selected for this position will have a basic understanding of environmental education theory, a passion for the outdoors, and a strong level of cultural competency and skills. The intern will develop and lead activities, assist with logistics, and work closely with local partners while being mentored by the Environmental Education Specialist.

20% Assist staff with Records Management duties. The intern will go through files and help categorize and organize paper files following a disposition schedule. The intern will help digitize files. Attention to detail is needed for this task.

20% Other duties include acting as a co-lead for middle students during an educational camping trip, assisting staff with classroom programs in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, participating in local and rural outreach and education events, and helping staff with logistics in the Fairbanks office. The intern may assist with remote field work if the opportunity arises.

Position Compensation:
- $600/week Living Allowance
- $1,300 one-time Travel Allowance
- $2,570 - project expense for laptop and adobe software

- Housing accommodations will be leased by SCA.
