  • Major Duties:
    ·         Communication: Effectively communicates with urban audience through interpretive activities that aid in implementing the refuge’s outreach program. Drafts a variety of written materials including news releases, articles, correspondence, and event flyers. These materials aid in increasing understanding of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service mission, encourage attendance at or assistance with a special event, and explain the goals and objectives of the refuge and its practices or related issues.
    ·         Environmental Education: Conducts a variety of curriculum based environmental education programs to students and families, both on and offsite, many with audiences from the local area. Programs provide the audience with a spectrum of opportunities for hands-on, real-life experiences with nature to encourage exploration of the outdoors.
    ·         Interpretation: Conducts a variety of formal and informal public programs to a variety of audiences; including orientation and interpretive talks, guided hikes, and roving interpretation.
    ·         Headquarters Operations: Assists with visitor center operations; including greeting visitors, staffing the front desk, responding to visitor inquiries for information, direction, and/or guidance, and educating visitors regarding rules, regulations, and safety concerns. 
    ·      Volunteers:   Assists with volunteer management duties such as organizing volunteer groups, helping with volunteer orientation and trainings, and building relationships with returning and new volunteers. 
            Other:     May require occasional weekend work for refuge events
