These positions will include: taking phone calls, drafting agreements, entering data, talking with volunteers, assisting with volunteer trainings, and providing direction to volunteers in the field. These positions will work in an office and field environment but are mostly field going.

Additionally these positions will involve: trail maintenance and monitoring,  interacting with the public and collecting visitor use data, the use of hand tools to maintain trails on multi-day trips into the wilderness, and reporting on trail conditions, water locations, and use patterns. 

Lastly, these positions will assist developed recreation needs by helping with facilities maintenance, painting, mowing, traffic control, compliance, and off highway vehicle areas including fence construction, patrolling, and road inventories.”

  • Housing is provided on the Tonto National Forest only 15 minute drive to the Phoenix Metro area. Closest town is Mesa AZ.
  • Volunteer management, Backcountry skills, Public interaction. Reporting on accomplishments.
  • Interns will learn backpacking and camping skills. Trail maintenance standards, backcountry navigation, Wilderness management challenges and practices. Phoenix Metro area is nearby for off duty recreational activities.
