The SCA Sustainability Fellow will be responsible for providing support to Sustainable Pittsburgh’s Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification.
 
The SCA Sustainability Fellow will be responsible for providing support to the Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification program. This is a project of the Pennsylvania Municipal League and Sustainable Pittsburgh, and is a voluntary performance recognition program to help municipalities achieve their sustainability goals. The SCA Sustainability Fellow will evaluate data and certification applications, and provide assistance in support of municipalities seeking certification.
 
Responsibilities
 
Sustainable Pennsylvania Communities Program:
  • Evaluate applications and process data for the Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification program
  • Respond to applicants with direction on how they can improve their application and earn certification.
  • Analyze effectiveness of current Sustainable Pennsylvania Criteria and offer suggestions for program improvement.
  • Assist in the production of Sustainable Community Development Webinars and Networking Forums for local community leaders.
  • Assist in strategy session to improve the impact of Sustainable PA program outreach.
  • Develop monthly newsletter and social media content for the Sustainable Community Development Network
  • Publish monthly newsletter for the Sustainable Community Development Network.

 
Applicants should have a strong interest in sustainability in both corporate and community settings. Applicants should be interested in pursuing sustainable development as a career goal. Applicants with a background in business, engineering, science, public policy or other related fields are preferred.
 
Specific skills sought are:

  • Ability to speak in front of an audience and with members of the public who have little prior knowledge of the programs
  • Ability to “pitch” the program to a diverse array of personalities, including local government officials, and community leaders
  • Ability to adapt communication styles, both written and spoken, for different audiences
  • Ability to drive to communities where public transit is not available, or is inadequate; a Zipcar account will be provided for such visits
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of program applications, including historical Certifications and to accurately track renewals and new applications
  • Ability to take initiative to organize connections where expertise and needs match
  • Ability to manage website and social media platforms.

Compensation: $465/week (includes living, housing, and commuting stipend), extensive training, workers compensation, relocation support. Note: Stipends and allowances are subject to state, local and federal taxes.

Interviews will begin in mid-January 2019.
