Data matters.  Collecting survey data and storing this data in a file cabinet & a spreadsheet is so 1990s.  Today, Biologists need an understanding of research data, open data, the scientific data lifecycle, and persistent data archiving techniques when it comes to sharing the results and conclusions of their studies.  Good data management techniques help ensure verification of results, and sharing of data across the scientific community.  In this position, you will be responsible for reviewing datasheet scans and survey related documents to determine the stage of the scientific data lifecycle.  You will create projects in the archiving system (ServCat), and directly enter the data & documents.  You will help improve ServCat’s search capabilities through controlled vocabularies.  You will also look for changes in survey data formats.  You will look into Darwin/Dublin core, and how it applies to the data.  As time allows interns will help develop Survey123 and Collector forms through ArcGIS Online & Portal. This is a great internship opportunity if you are an A+ team player and have an interest in the 21st century overlapping job skills of conservation biology data management, library science, and professional archiving of scientific data and understanding the scientific data lifecycle.
