The Management Resources Intern serving with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will focus on assisting with the collection of fisheries independent and dependent data for the Coastal Fisheries Division of TPWD with field sampling aboard shallow-water skiffs. Fisheries-independent data includes collecting samples with bag seines, bay trawls, oyster dredges, and gill nets. Fisheries-dependent data are collected during creel surveys conducted at boat-ramp and wet-slip sites where various information is collected from anglers about their trips including identification, enumeration and measurement of their catch. The intern will also assist with gear repair, data entry, outreach events, and other duties as assigned. The intern will be working alongside TPWD staff members learning the sampling program methodology.
This position is 40 hours per week and requires work on holidays, weekends and hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as necessary.

Palacios Field Station
Training: Include technical training in saltwater sampling gear. Attendance at Coastal Fisheries policy creating meeting and other policy meetings as available. Opportunity to train in DNA sequencing.
