Intern will work alongside our Seward Ranger District trail crew on our 300+ mile trail system. Duties will include log-out, brushing, drainage, tread work and bridge replacements.  These positions will require heavy lifting, digging, camping in remote country and hiking in all weather. Physical fitness is an important component to this position as interns will be expected to do manual labor. Chosen candidates need to bring a positive attitudes and a willingness to work in inclement (wet) weather over long days out in remote field camps. Additionally, candidates will be expected to operate basic trail maintenance and building hand tools on a regular basis as well as mechanized equipment. 

Compensation amounts:
  • $1,300 - one time RT travel allowance
  • $280 - weekly living allowance
  • $370 - monthly housing allowance (for USFS bunkhouse housing)
  • AmeriCorps eligible ($1,566 education award)

  • These positions will be located in Moose Pass, AK on the Seward Ranger District.Located on the Kenai Peninsula, Moose Pass is a friendly and picturesque little town with a year-round population of about 350. It is tucked away in the mountains along the shoreline of Upper Trail Lake at Mile 29 of the Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway.
  • These positions will be immersed with SRD staff and will receive training in Bear behavior/ safety and the use of bear spray; Aviation User Training, Defensive Driving, Chainsaw training and others.
