This position is located in Southeast Alaska, in Ketchikan.  Main duties of this position include; trail maintenance (work with hand tools and power tools, such as chainsaws) including brushing trails and trail repair on boardwalk systems, installing non-skid material, etc. 

Cabin maintenance tasks include, but are not limited to: general cabin and outhouse cleaning (assist with outhouse pumping)
, painting, repair of structure, algae and moss removal, other improvements.  This work entails backcountry stays, use of boats, and may entail occasional trips in small float planes. 

Campground/day use maintenance tasks include cleaning facilities (including outhouses), removing trash, picking up litter, weed eating, mowing, painting, etc. This work would be mostly intown. 


Compensation amounts:
  • $1,500 - one time RT travel allowance
  • $280 - weekly living allowance
  • $200 - PPE/boot allowance (reimbursable)
  • $500 - duty related travel fund (for work related gear and work related trip expenses)
  • AmeriCorps eligbility (Education award of approximately $2,360)
  • Housing

Conditions of Employment:
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.
