Position start and end dates are flexible by 3-4 weeks:

In collaboration with the BLM Alaska State Office, you will be to complete the writing of sign plans for 3 districts, including 4 field offices. In addition you ill be asked to manage a Digital Public Information Map Series (DPIMS) project and assist the Alaska Recreation Program lead in creating fee area business plans. While traveling across offices will not be a primary component of this position, there will be opportunities to plan trips. 
 
Housing will vary between personal housing in Anchorage and hotels in Fairbanks or Glenallen, Alaska.

Requirements for this job include: possessing a valid U.S. driver’s license, GPS experience, an ability to read maps and use a computer/ tablet, technical writing skills using MS Word, the ability to use Arc GIS software to make 8/12” x 11” maps, and the ability to download data from GPS units or tablets throughout the collection process.

  • Interns will be working within BLM lands in Alaska that are on the road system. This will include field and district offices, as well as the state office.
  • GIS/GPS, Driving, and ATV training may or may not be available.
  • There will be opportunities to see some parts of the state through visits to various BLM field offices.
  • Interns will have the opportunity to interact with a great number of BLM recreation staff throughout various Alaska field and district offices - as well as state level staff. They will be helping to implement an important and much needed inventory, which will have great benefit to the BLM while simultaneously building interns’ professional skill-sets.
