This internship is assigned to the Visitor and Resources Protection Division at Mammoth Cave National Park. The office is the HQ Ranger Station, but the primary duty location will be the Green River Ferry and associated parking area.

This intern will contact visitors at the Green River Ferry and Ferry Parking Area, providing information about recreation regulations, opportunities, and current restrictions while providing information on resources management practices at Mammoth Cave National Park.

The intern will ensure developed recreation areas are maintained in accordance with standards. Hundreds of visitors come to the park each day. The intern will be expected to deliver general information on the local area, maps, campgrounds, etc.

During the time of the internship, the Ferry Parking Area will be expanded and the associated Echo River Spring Trail will be upgraded to provide visitors with mobility issues access to Echo River Spring. During construction periods, the parking area/trail will be closed, and the intern will be responsible for providing traffic control services. Especially during the weekends, there is a large amount of canoe and kayak traffic as the Green River Ferry is one of primary canoe launch/retrieval sites. Due to the size of the ferry landing, there are occasional landing conflicts between the canoeists/kayakers and the ferry itself. Because of this, the intern will occasionally be stationed on board the ferry as a safety monitor to help prevent such conflicts. Because the primary period for contacts is the weekend, the intern will work five days per week with off-days during mid-week.
