Position ID
The SCA Piping Plover Technician position will assist the station Wildlife Biologist with monitoring and management actions to recover the threatened Northern Great Plains piping plover population. Specifically, they will help conduct a comprehensive census of breeding adult plovers in the Long Lake Wetland Management District (Burleigh, Emmons, and Kidder counties, ND), monitor nest success and chick survival of identified pairs, implement management actions including the use of predator exclosure cages to improve nest success, assist US Geological Survey biologists with re-sighting color-banding plover chicks and adults.  They will also assist with conducting vegetation monitoring to evaluate response to grazing and burning treatments and participate in other biological surveys as time allows.  

The AmeriCorps award for this position is dependent on availability at the time of candidate selection.
  • Long Lake National Wildlife Refuge located approx. 35 miles SE of Bismarck, ND
  • 1-day training on piping plover biology and monitoring protocols.
