This position will be responsible for staffing the Alaska Public Lands Information Center. The Alaska Public Lands Information Center serves as the urban visitor center for Gates of the Arctic National Park and Yukon Charley Rivers Preserve and located in the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center in Fairbanks, Alaska. The incumbent will greet visitors, answer questions, provide information and materials, update displays and bulletin boards, answer written information requests, sell merchandise from the cooperating association, perform roving interpretation, present formal and informal interpretive and education programs, and assist with developing interpretive media/products. The incumbent will assist with developing site specific interpretive bulletins for visitor information and design of computer generated media. The incumbent may also provide walking tours through the exhibit hall. The Alaska Public Lands Information Center (APLIC) is an interagency visitor center providing information and education on all public lands in Alaska.

  • Presents limited and repetitive interpretive talks including introductions to films, map talks, and static exhibit interpretation.
  • Orients visitors to conditions and equipment needs.
  • Staffs information counter at the visitor center serving as initial contact for visitors.
  • Provides information on a variety of subjects and interprets park values for visitors with varying interests and backgrounds.
  • Provides visitors with information on park related activities, services and park themes.
  • Operates equipment in the center theatre.
  • Assists with visiting groups and education programs at the center.
  • Assists with information updating and disseminating to agency partners.


  • $1,115 - one time RT travel allowance
  • $200 - weekly living allowance
  • $35 - weekly commuting allowance
  • $900 - monthly housing allowance (4 months of housing allowances total and you will need to secure your own housing in Fairbanks beforehand)
  • $380 - duty-related travel for work related trips/duties

  • The Alaska Public Lands Information Center (APLIC) is an interagency visitor center providing information and education on all public lands in Alaska. The center is located inside the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center in downtown Fairbanks Alaska.
  • Training Provided: One week of Agency orientation and visitor center operations which includes field trips to local recreation sites,bear aware/pepper spray safety; interpretive techniques and backcountry safety.
  • Our site is located in the interior region of Alaska providing great hiking opportunities, access to Denali National Park (2 hr drive), and learning about Alaska Native Cultures.
