Position ID
This project will support logistical planning, social media, community outreach, and partner planning for the 2020 American Solar Challenge, which will roughly follow the route of the Oregon National Historic Trail from Independence, MO to Boise, ID.  In July, 2020 the intern will support the actual event by travelling for up to 12 days along with NPS staff and interacting with the public about the Oregon National Historic Trail at event stops. Post-event the intern will provide follow-up communication with partner’ sites and prepare an event review.

The American Solar Challenge (ASC) is a collegiate student design competition where university teams design, build, and then drive a solar-powered vehicle along a defined route.  In 2018, and again in 2020, the route will roughly follow the route of the Oregon Trail. The Oregon National Historic Trail is administered by the National Park Service, and has partnered with the solar challenge to raise awareness about the Oregon and other National Trails through this unique event.
