In the summer and fall of 2020, SCA is running a DC based young adult crew to work in both Rock Creek Park and have a 3 week hitch at Shenandoah National Park. For the duration of the program the team will work Monday- Friday. While the crew is working in Rock Creek members and leaders will commute each day to the worksite. During the 3 weeks the team is working in Shenandoah the team will camp onsite in the Park Monday-Friday and return to the DC area for the weekend. Members are responsible for their own housing in the DC metro area.

Program dates: June 15- October 16, 2020
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am- 3:30pm
Pay Rate: $15 per hour (working 40 hours per week)

  • 14 weeks of work at Rock Creek Park:
    • Project Scope of Work: The crew will have two main projects while at Rock Creek Park. Project 1: fixing fencing at the equine park. There’s a lot of deferred maintenance work around the fencing that will be a solid project for young adults. Project 2: The larger portion of this parks project will be around eradicating bamboo from a particular portion of the park. This project will involve the crew cutting bamboo shoots down, disposing of the shoots, and covering the root systems / ground with a black mesh to starve the plant from sunlight.
  • 3 weeks of work at Shenandoah National Park- 
    • Project scope of work: The team will work on deferred maintenance projects including campsite restoration and trail work. Project monitoring and data collection will also be required throughout the season.
