The Natural Resources Interns at Sylvan Rodriguez Park:

• Conduct prairie and riparian habitat restoration within parks.

• Work in the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) greenhouse to propagate plants for habitat restoration.

• Coordinate community cleanup and conservation service events.

• Perform trash cleanup of riparian areas.

• Conduct invasive species removal using mechanical and/or chemical methods.

• Perform technical data collection, research, analysis, evaluations, inspections, or surveys to determine the impact on natural resources.

• Participate in community outreach events to educate citizens about the value of native habitat.

• Maintain, calibrate, and operate technical equipment.

• Assist in field studies and in making technical evaluations.  

• Participate in online and hands-on training provided by various organizations.

• Perform related work as assigned.

*This position does not provide housing so candidates must be local or have the ability to identify their own housing in the Houston area.
 

These interns must accept the AmeriCorps Education Award

Intern Living Allowance: $200.00 per week
Intern Commuter Allowance: $50.00 per week

Conditions of Employment
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.
