The intern will assist National Park Service staff in park operations and project work conducted at Tonto National Monument. The SCA intern will assist park staff with the Post Woodbury Fire Ecological Restoration project, including revegetation, working with volunteers, monitoring vegetation plots, and removing invasive species. The intern will tend the park green house, collect and sort back country game camera data, assist in monitoring backcountry archeological sites, create educational wildlife posters, and greet and orient visitors to the national monument by providing informal interpretation. The intern will be expected to greet visitors at the Lower Cliff Dwelling during 2-3 hour shifts approximately 1-2 days a week.

Compensation amounts:
  • $1,100 - travel allowance
  • $300 - weekly living allowance

  • The intern will work at Tonto National Monument. This is a remote landscape east of Phoenix in the Sonoran
    Desert. It contains many archeological sites, including 700 year old cliff dwellings. There is a visitor center and
    other park facilities on site and the intern will work as a part of the park’s team that includes 10 to 15 other people.
  • Many trainings will be available online through the Department of the Interior. Staff trainings may also be available in first aid and safety.
  • The intern will work closely with experts in interpretation, archeology, natural resources, and facility management. The surrounding Tonto National Forest and Roosevelt Lake offer many recreational opportunities.
