Invasive Plant Control, Inc. is excited to announce the creation of an Invasive Plant Strike Team at the Warner Parks in Nashville, TN. Percy and Edwin Warner Parks span 3,200 acres of wooded hills, open meadows, and streams, and includes 16.75 miles of hiking trails. In partnership with the Friends of Warner Parks and Invasive Plant Control, Inc. three invasive plant field technician intern positions will be added to the current strike team. The WP Strike Team will be dedicated to treating and removing invasive vegetation within sites prioritized in the Invasive Plant Management Plan. The Friends of Warner Parks has set a goal to be Invasive Free by 2027. Highest priority sites will be areas that have been previously treated. Once previously treated sites have been maintained, the crew will work on untreated areas.

The WP Strike Team mitigates damage from invasive plants by utilizing the most effective techniques to stop invasive plants. Crew members will spend most of their time managing invasive plants in the field.

Service Location: Percy and Edwin Warner Parks in Nashville, TN

Compensation: 
  • $600 / week living allowance (pre-tax)
  • Housing provided  
  • $500 bonus upon successful completion of internship (pre-tax) 

The typical workweek will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday with hours varying from 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. Uniforms and all equipment will be provided.

Invasive Plant Management Crew
Functional Responsibilities
This position requires the ability to perform the necessary management of invasive species in a time efficient manner. The following responsibilities are required of the Invasive Management Crew:

  • Applies non-restricted use herbicides (NRH) and adjuvants 
  • Operates equipment as needed for the proper application of herbicides and adjuvants in the proper use of application equipment, including backpack sprayer, ATV, Argo, swamp buggy, airboat, skiff w/ outboard motor, and 4X4 truck.
  • Operates spray apparatus, including electric pump, gas powered pumps, and hand pumps.
  • Adheres to label instructions and IPC Safety Guidelines in all aspects of work.
  • Discuss goals and desires to passersby in an understanding way
  • Ability to correctly identify all invasive plant with minimal review, and to discriminate invasive plants from any native vegetation of similar appearance.
  • Have a sound academic knowledge of ecological principles as they relate to vegetation management.
  • Have a working, current knowledge of resource management methods, biological processes and vegetation sample techniques.
  • Knowledge, ability, and willingness to handle herbicides in the course of vegetation management.
  • Ability to mix, handle, and apply herbicides in accordance with label directions and crew supervisor instructions
  • Ability to handle and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order for daily operations.
  • Perform on-the-ground management

Training/Certification Requirements

  • Ability to obtain an applicators license issued from the state of Tennessee listing the appropriate application category (Forestry or right of way), current CPR card, and ability to train applicators working under his/her license.
