Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized or FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.

This position will be based out of both Sitka National Historical Park and Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve.

The candidate selected will work under the guidance of the curator on projects related to both archival and object collections. Principal duties will include rehousing and stabilizing priority objects from the museum collection; conducting object research; cataloging objects and updating catalog records with additional information; creating social media posts pertaining to cultural resources and the collections in the park; photographing objects; assisting researchers; conducting annual inventory; and implementing museum environmental monitoring and housekeeping tasks in collections areas.

This internship is ideal for a student who is interested in collections and archives management. While some experience with collections is necessary, all work will be guided by the park curator and appropriate field training will be provided as needed.

· Must be able to lift 20lbs on a regular basis

· Experience using a museum collection software database is a plus

· Experience handling and tracking archives and object collections is a plus

· Experience using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and writing reports is a plus

Compensation amounts:

  • $1,300 - one time RT trave allowance
  • $280 - weekly living allowance
  • AmeriCorps eligible (approximately $6k education award and health insurance if elected)
  • $2,500 - duty related travel fund
  • Housing
