The Mayor’s Office of Education works to create equitable educational opportunity for all Houstonians by collaboration, communication, and coordination with Houston’s education stakeholders. Utilizing a collective impact approach, the office works to enhance and systematize city-wide educational access, equity, and opportunity.

The position will be within the Mayor’s Office of Education (City of Houston) and will primarily be responsible for the coordination of MOE’s Connecting Children to Nature – Houston program (CCCN-H).

 Other relevant duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Provide coordination with Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD), Houston Public Library (HPL), Houston Health Department (HHD), Mayor’s Office of Complete Communities (MOCC), Greater Houston school districts, and all internal and external nature stakeholders.

·         Determine goals for the CCCN program; implement a variety of activities; ensure stakeholder engagement; and provide effective communication to all partners.

·         Moniior progress for projects and programs associated with the implementation of the CCCN program and projects.

·         Compile reports and research grant opportunities.
This internship is part-time.

Education or Experience Requirement: Bachelor’s degree (Environmental Education, Natural Sciences, Planning, or related field) from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to job, plus three (3) years of experience in related field.

Two (2) or more years’ experience developing, implementing and evaluating environmental programs for youth.

Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

·         _Experience working with diverse populations and communities, including public speaking and interacting with individuals of diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.

·         _Experience working with volunteer groups and coordinating volunteer projects in Parks or similar setting.

·         _Experience in coordinating design and construction of outdoor spaces in a park or similar setting.

·         _Experience in preparing and delivering presentations to leadership such as executive-level management, public officials or Boards and Commissions.

·         _Experience in developing and managing project budgets.

·         Experience in researching, administering and seeking grants.
