Your position involves helping the students with special needs gain a better appreciation and understanding of the complex historical events of the American Civil War, with emphasis on the Battles of First and Second Manassas (Bull Run). Duties, designed to make our educational programming more inclusive, include researching the Battles of Manassas; preparing materials to be used for braille guides and sign language videos; researching ways to make the park’s educational programming more accessible for students who are differently abled; and developing a list of contacts of special education teachers and others that work with such students in the surrounding community. If you have an interest in going into the field of education; and are a people person who would enjoy working with the public, this position is for you.

Educational and Recreational Opportunities: You will have the opportunity to meet, work with, and shadow staff covering all areas of interpretive operations; plus potentially participate in special events and/or living history programs. You will also have the opportunity to participate in educational field trips and other activities with the education office.

Compensation Details: 
  • One time travel allowance: $1,100 (personal vehicle is required)
  • Weekly living allowance: $160 / week
  • Monthly housing allowance: $700 / month (4 months of housing allowance provided)
  • Eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the position.
