Hands on restoration opportunities!
We are seeking two SCA interns to get their hands dirty with direct restoration of native plant habitats by assisting with our invasive plant management program for Fall, 2019.  The work will primarily focus on control of Himalayan blackberry using herbicide.  The work will mostly be carried out in the Bald Hills, an expanse of grasslands and oak woodlands, giving way to forested slopes lower in the drainage.  Control techniques will focus on the application of chemical herbicides, but will also include manual removal and the use of hand tools.
  • Redwood National and State Parks is located in the far northwest corner of California. The parks protect old-growth redwood forests, oak woodlands, prairies, coastal sand/scrub/forest, serpentine savannas, and portions of three major water courses, the Smith River, the Klamath River Estuary, and Redwood Creek. The area is renowned for the beauty of its forests, rolling hills and coastline. Our offices are located in the small town of Orick. Fall weather will vary from cool and rainy, to stormy to sunny.
  • Interns will be offered first aid/CPR, herbicide application training, and will learn about invasive plant control techniques. Interns will have the opportunity to go out with other projects such as fish and wildlife surveys, as available.
  • Recreational opportunities in the general area include beaches, hiking, biking, rivers, boating and fishing. Our offices are located 35 minutes north of Arcata, a small college town with music, restaurants etc.
