The Procter Camp and Conference Center, located in London, Ohio, is continually looking for ways to better the environment from our small corner of the world. This year, we would like to create a wetland mitigation bank on the property, which will clear out some invasive plants, lessen flooding on the property, and create a new ecosystem within the space. Included on the property is a 6-acre, organic practicing farm, which is used for educational purposes and production. The farm sells at numerous farmers markets, a store-front, hosts a 17-week CSA, and supplements the Procter Camp and Conference Center Dining Hall. While interning you will primarily be:
  • Cleaning and removing the invasive honeysuckle from the surrounding woodland area
  • Farm work
  • Caring for farm animals
  • Various other duties as assigned

Farm work includes green house and animal care, harvesting, prepping the fields for the upcoming winter season, and assisting with markets.  Methods to clear the invasive species include painting and cutting the plant throughout the woodland. Removing these invasive species will make the woodland more beneficial for wildlife and usable for outdoor education programs and camping.

  • The Procter Center is located in rural Madison County, near London Ohio about 45 mins from Columbus, Ohio.
  • An environmental agency is consulting on the wetland mitigation bank and clean up of the woodlands. The students will have access to these professionals to observe and ask questions.
Spring farm work will demonstrate preparation for farm production.
  • The interns will have an opportunity to learn about how a wetland is developed and maintained. They will have an opportunity participate in reclaiming a woodland from invasive species and learn about sustainable farming practices.
