You will help visitors make their visit a memorable one by helping them make connections with the park and its resources.

• Perform both natural and cultural interpretation services including informal visitor contacts at the North Unit Visitor Center.
• Provide formal interpretation including pocket programs, guided hikes, non-illustrated evening programs. Opportunities for additional programs may be provided, depending upon the Intern’s interest.
• Conduct retail sales of merchandise for Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association.
• Participate in special events celebrating the NPS Centennial. Most contacts are with the general public and other park staff. Contacts are made to facilitate effective park operations; to provide visitors with a safe, meaningful and enjoyable visit; and to interpret the natural and cultural resources of the park.
• Work schedules will include weekends, holidays, and evening work, which is required.

Required Skills: Valid driver`s license; ability and willingness to submit to a required criminal history background check; interest in working with the public on a daily basis.

Desired Skills: Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to accurately complete cash and credit card transactions; ability and willingness to work as part of a team; ability and willingness to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds.

This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
  • North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Remote location. Nearest town is Watford City, 15 miles north. Small town; restaurants, shops, gas, post office.
  • 2-week interpretive training, including interpretive skills, information about the natural and cultural resources of the park & the surrounding area; Standard First Aid/AED/CPR training & certification; mentoring & coaching in interpretive skills.
  • The park has a many hiking trails and the only Congressionally designated Wilderness in the northern Great Plains.
