Citizen’s Environmental Coalition seeks a candidate to build a digital environmental education program for students to interact virtually with biologists and wildlife from various locations across the Gulf Coast region to build environmental literacy.

Working with partners, the candidate will bring synchronous programming to the region. They will arrange to go to one new, natural location per week, to connect classrooms and students to significant places in the region. This includes the beaches, Pineywoods, prairies, and urban forests. They will also build a digital library of asynchronous programming to be used by educators in digital classrooms to increase environmental literacy and correspond with state learning objectives. Content will be housed on hereinhouston.org. Candidate will use computer, video technology, cameras, audio equipment and research to fully create programming.

To increase participation, candidate will develop graphics, social media and marketing materials to regularly promote the program. They may attend local events for promotional purposes.

Candidate will gain hands-on experience working with wildlife biologists, refuge partners, outdoor recreation/visitor services programs and habitat restoration projects. They may attend job-shadowing days to build program-related skills. The primary duties require the ability to work with multiple community partners, including representatives of federal, state and local government agencies, non-profit organizations and other groups.

Candidate will maintain daily communication with CEC program manager, and track their own program deliverables. They must maintain program materials and tools. Note: other duties may be assigned due to new priorities and opportunities that may arise. 
 
This position requires work both indoors and outside, in all weather. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and on camera is vital to this position and ability to communicate in English and Spanish is desired. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are required for this position.

Local Candidates Only
Living Allowance $160 per week
Commuter Allowance $40 per week
Housing Allowance $600 per month
No relocation travel (due to local candidate requirement)
 
  • Houston is in the midst of the Gulf Coast Region, with Pineywoods, coastal habitat, prairies, urban parks and great fall/spring weather (it’s not always hot here).
  • You can work side-by-side with various program partners, participate in on-line training courses as needed, and set up one-on-one mentoring sessions with appropriate partners.
  • Plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities exist in the area. Hiking, biking, paddling, back-country camping, hunting, swimming, beach going, fishing. Plus, you will be at a different field site each week with opportunity to recreate & learn.
