With the help of the EPA’s Gulf of Mexico Program, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Student Conservation Association (SCA) are excited to announce this opportunity. As part of TNC’s Stewardship Training for Environmental Progress (STEP) Program, you’ll join a team of 4 local young adults to restore coastal habitats through prescribed burning

This is a 4-month paid position with variable hours. Typically, members will work weekdays unless weekends are ideal for burning. Work will mostly be outdoors and will sometimes require heavy lifting and using equipment such as chainsaws. Team members will work under a team leader that will serve as SCA’s supervisors. All team members are expected to be respectful, on-time, hard working, and aware of conditions to ensure a safe working environment. Preference will be given to applicants that have completed at least one year of the GulfCorps program.
  • Members of this Team will participate in the following training:
    - Wilderness First Aid/CPR
    - Basic Wildland fire (S130, S190)
    - Wildland Fire Fighter (red card)
    - CPR/Wilderness First Aid
    - Chainsaw skills (S212, tentative)
