The intern will be required to perform all aspects of greenhouse and garden tasks related to plant propagation, greenhouse plant care, garden preparation, planting and maintenance.  Prior knowledge is not required but a demonstrated interest in this work is essential.  The intern will work cooperatively with NPS horticulture staff and volunteers, and will interact with the public on a daily basis.  The intern must have a drivers license. Each day will involve a combination of indoor and outdoor work.  The intern will be given an overview of the history of the site and the cultural landscape of the Home of Franklin D Roosevelt. The intern will be trained in greenhouse propagation and garden techniques. Depending on the skill level of the intern, they may lead volunteers in these areas..

  • See above. Any Park training programs that are open to employees during the Interns residency (such as CPR, safety, history, workplace skills, etc.) will be available to the intern
  • The intern will learn best practices in horticulture, learn to work with volunteers, learn about the history of the Roosevelt family in the Hudson Valley. The Hudson Valley is rich in outdoor rec opportunities.
