The US Army Corps Rivers Project, located just outside of St. Louis, is seeking a Forest Management and Monitoring Intern to serve for four months this summer. Duties will include:
  • Forest Pest Monitoring – The US Army Corps of Engineers had the first positive detection of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) at the Rivers Project Office (RPO) in 2018. Two additional positive detections occurred on RPO areas in 2020. This project will focus on expanded EAB monitoring in 2021. Standard insect traps and detection trees will be used.
  • Forest Inventory – Floodplain forest monitoring is a large part of our Environmental Stewardship program. This data helps inform resource management decisions on USACE property. The intern will assist with monitoring efforts of floodplain forest inventory plots.
  • Reforestation Site Monitoring – Establishment and maintenance of reforestation sites is ongoing. The intern will be monitoring these reforestation sites to determine tree survivorship that will dictate supplemental tree planting.

This position provides:
- $130 weekly Living Allowance*
- $700 monthly Housing Allowance*
- $1100 one-time round-trip Travel Allowance*
 - $20 weekly Community Allowance*

This position is an AmeriCorps program and acceptance of AmeriCorps membership is required. The AmeriCorps Education Award received upon successful completion of this position is $1,638.89. 

*All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.
