Fish and Wildlife Service Intern

The US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Ecological Service (ES) Office is seeking a 12-month Student Conservation Association (SCA) position for the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Arlington Texas office. The intern will work with Service staff to strengthen our support of the Service’s urban initiative to promote strategies that build sustainable engagement of urban communities with nature, and provide structured and recurring educational and interpretive programs for the general public, schools, and youth groups (75%). Ongoing programs include Monarch butterfly festivals and Earth Day celebrations. We are seeking an intern to expand the frequency and types of events. The Fish and Wildlife Service has a large resource of educational and hands-on items for display and engagement. Intern will also have the opportunity to work with the Fish and Wildlife Staff on a number of issues in the office including endangered species data review and collection, staff field trips, meetings, and GIS work, as opportunities arise (25%)

The ES office sits in Arlington, Texas midway between Dallas and Fort Worth. Both areas continue experience high growth, with requests for the Fish and Wildlife Service to engage in  events.  The Arlington ES typically participates in approximately a dozen outreach activities a year. Given the large urban community, and the request for the Service to engage in monarch restoration, community partnerships, and other outdoor activities, we are seeking a motivated, self-starter to develop and deliver programs for our local urban communities. The Arlington ES can not provide housing, but plenty of options are available for students between the University of Texas Arlington, Texas A&M Commerce, and other universities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. FWS will provide a housing stipend and attempt to recruit from the local communities.

Offer of AmeriCorps Education Award is dependent on avilability.
