This position requires that you become enrolled in AmeriCorps.  If you are selected for this program please be sure to accept AmeriCorps during the SCA offer process.  No travel allowance will be offered for this position even if it is stated on your confirmation of acceptance.

Purpose of the Program: 
To assist regional staff with environmental education and interpretation development and implementation
 
AmeriCorps Member Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with leading groups on hikes  
  • Assist with school field trips that utilize the Connect Kids Transportation Grant
  • Prepare and conduct environmental education programs
  • Conduct periodic trail inspections and provide trail information to hikers
  • Assist in the research, writing, and production of educational and promotional materials i.e. interpretive brochures, program fliers, field and trail guides, and program lesson plans
  • Assist in the research and production.of State Park Nature Center displays 
  • Participate in all SCA Corps-wide trainings and service projects, as well as project evaluation and reporting. (15%) 

Performance Goals for the AmeriCorps Member:
Goal 1: Conduct with assistance programs for community groups and schools
Goal 2: Design at least two achievable interpretive displays or interpretive brochures
Goal 3: Conduct at least five interpretive programs that are open to the general public

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License for at least 3 years
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Candidate should have excellent communication and organizational skills, and be reliable and capable of performing duties with little supervision.
  • Candidates must be self-motivated, able to initiate projects and tasks, have good time management and organizational skills, and effectively work with others and the public.
  • Working towards or holding a degree in an environmental field
