Education & Visitor Services Intern

Expected Dates
February 17, 2020 to August 14, 2020
Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park
Position ID
Combined Education and Visitor Services:  This position will have as its primary focus the support of the park’s education program during the busy spring season. The incumbent will present pre-designed, activity-based education programs, mostly to fourth and fifth graders on field trips, under the supervision of, or often in collaboration with, our education coordinator.  These programs will be presented mostly at Fredericksburg Battlefield and Chatham, a 1771 plantation, and will be based largely on the park’s online curriculum, Community at War.

The position will also provide more traditional front-line work in one of our visitor centers, historic structures, or exhibit shelters when education programs are not scheduled. This work will entail performing opening and closing operations, providing orientation to visitors, running audio-visual programs, doing informal interpretation (at Chatham), and giving walking tours at Fredericksburg’s Sunken Road or at the Chancellorsville Visitor Center—programs organized around pre-existing outlines and thematic statements.

This position will work Monday-Friday, eight hours per day, from March through May, then five days a week, including most weekends, thereafter.
