Canyonlands National Park
Position ID
Teach elementary students the science of Utah’s canyon county in a natural setting. You will assist the education team at Canyon Country Outdoor Education (CCOE) in implementing curriculum-based programs for elementary students. You will instruct at a variety of locations in Canyonlands and Arches national parks, on surrounding public lands, and at local schools. You may also have the opportunity to rove busy park trails and interact with junior rangers at Arches Visitor Center. In addition, interns may work with other divisions on an as-needed basis.  Applicants should have professional work experience with elementary age children, such as in a classroom, after-school program, summer camp, etc.

Compensation amounts:
  • $1,100 - one time RT travel allowance
  • $250 - weekly living allowance
  • AmeriCorps eligible ($2,360 education award)
  • Housing

  • Teach elementary students the science of Utah’s canyon county. Surrounding the confluence of the Colorado and Green rivers, Canyonlands National Park preserves canyons, unusual rock formations and mesas reaching 6,000 ft. Arches National Park preserves over two thousand natural sandstone arches, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. This internship is a cooperative venture with the National Park Service division of education and interpretation.
  • Interns will receive training on teaching children science concepts as well as the cultural and natural history of SE Utah. Moab offers many different educational avenues for those who seek training beyond the NPS.
  • Moab is in the heartland of all things recreational in the high desert, including hiking, biking, climbing, rafting, canoeing, paddle boarding, 4-wheel driving and scenic drives. The La Sal Mountains are nearby along with several national and state parks.
