Lake Roosevelt is a very culturally rich area.  We are looking for a driven person looking to expand experience with informal education.
This position will be helping expand the park’s education program and its premier program “The River Mile.” “TRM” is a k-12th grade Columbia River watershed health monitoring program, which features schools adopting sections of the watershed as their outdoor classrooms. This internship position will help continue to reach students around Lake Roosevelt.
The preferred candidate will have at least minimal education or experience with environmental education, classroom teaching, environmental sciences, biology or other natural sciences.  We are seeking a detail-oriented candidate with strong public speaking and outstanding organizational skills.
Detailed Description of Duties:

Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, and in coordination with the park’s Education Technician, the incumbent presents high quality curriculum-based education programs for all grade levels both in the park and in schools.  
Incumbent will:
  • Assist with teacher training, event planning and administration aspects of the park’s education program. May work directly with local teachers and school administrators to schedule education programs as an integral component of the school curriculum.
  • Assist with curriculum development.
  • Help with educational festivals and events throughout the year.
  • Assist with creation and distribution of education marketing materials such as: flyers, emails, e-newsletters, websites, exhibits and presentations.
  • Maintain the program’s equipment and supplies inventory and conduct regular inventories.
  • Handle shipping and receiving of traveling trunks and loan equipment.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and programs, including, but not limited to: computers, tablets, driving of large vehicles, water quality meters, GPS, scientific chemistry kits, and cameras. 
  • Prepare correspondence as directed, respond to questions regarding park resources, education programs, and general information requests.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in interpretive programs.
  • May develop and present his or her own public interpretation programs as time allows.  
  • Learn and assist with the park’s Astronomy Program for schools and the public.

Compensation amounts:
- $1,100 - one time RT travel allowance
- $160 - weekly living allowance
-  monthly health insurance (optional)
- AmeriCorps eligible ($6,195)

** It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance

  • This position will be based in Coulee Dam, WA and the southern end of Lake Roosevelt. We serve all of NE Washington state from this location. Grand Coulee is the northern edge of the Columbia Plateau and is desert like conditions with bitterbrush and bunchgrass. Just across the river is pine forests. We are 100 miles from Spokane and Wenatchee (in opposite directions).
  • Incumbent will receive training in education standards (NGSS & Common Core), project based learning, and problem-based education along with a variety of scientific and environmental subject areas (such as crayfish, water quality, soils).
