The Alaska Public Lands Information center is seeking a dynamic candidate who can help rekindle many of its education partnerships that have been challenged this last year by COVID-19. Preferred candidates will be motivated self-starters that have a desire to make connections with federal, state, and local community education partners. Prior knowledge and experience in Alaska and Anchorage, while preferred, is not a requirement. 

The selected candidate will be expected to produce a communications plan for the Center and will work alongside the center director to re-engage important partners. They will also help to plan educational partnership programs for major events such as Fur Rendezvous. 

In addition, this internship may involve working directly with school groups both on and off-site. The intern may assist the education team in off-site educational programming via outreach to see how current kits are used at the military base, libraries, outdoors schools, and in after school programs. The intern may also assist on-site with education scavenger hunts, guided walks, public lands programs and special events. They will help produce activities and lessons that are age/grade appropriate.  There will be training provided on entry to job and there may be duty related travel. Intern may be responsible for entering educational content into the AlaskaCenters and NPS websites. 

Compensation amounts:
  • $1,300 - one time travel allowance
  • $280 - weekly living allowance 
  • $1,000 - monthly housing allowance (11 months)
  • AmeriCorps education award ($6,195)
    • Health insurance if elected
