The SCA applicant selected for this internship will gain valuable experience in historic site programming and operations. Specifically, the intern will have opportunities to conduct historical research; facilitate tours of Boston African American National Historic Site, including the Black Heritage Trail and the African Meeting House; support curriculum-based programming; facilitate summer family programming; and assist with planning and implementation of special events.  The intern will work in partnership with NPS Supervisory Park Ranger, Education Specialist, Lead Park Ranger, and park partners to plan and implement daily programming, operations, and special events throughout the internship, and will assist with programming and operations at other sites managed in tandem within the National Parks of Boston, including the Faneuil Hall Visitor Center and Great Hall.  Weekend work is required.
 
  • Boston African American National Historic Site is located in a historic residential neighborhood of Beacon Hill, and is in the midst of Boston’s large and active metropolitan community where many cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities as well as other amenities are available. Faneuil Hall is located in the heart of Boston’s historic district.
  • First-aid, Interpretive principles, NPS History and Mission, Informal Visitor Contacts, Primary source research, curriculum-based programming, Interpretive Talk, field experiences at area parks for career exploration and networking.
  • The internship includes opportunities to visit and learn about area museums, historic sites, and NPS units. The site is proximate to the ocean, mountains, and an array of natural and cultural gems.
