Position ID
Gateway Arch National Park has an opportunity for two SCA interns to assist with presenting activity-based summer education and family programming at Gateway Arch National Park. Interns will work with interpretative rangers and education specialists who will provide them with valuable training.
Interns will be responsible for facilitating programs that are relevant and enjoyable to students who participate in programming at the Arch. Interns will assist with the implementation of outdoor summer camps that emphasize experiential environmental education. They will also help students learn more about and participate in the Junior Ranger program.
The long-term goals of the project include:
1) introducing interns to education related jobs and, for some, mentor them in that direction,
2) allowing interns to actively participate in developing outdoor education programs that engage children and families,
3) providing an opportunity to gain experience in partnership, outreach, and collaboration, and
4) assisting in fostering a sense of stewardship of the park and its resources.

This position provides:
- $185 weekly Living Allowance*
- $1,100 one-time round-trip Travel Allowance*
- $500 monthly Housing Allowance
- $20 per week community allowance (for St. Louis transit pass)

The AmeriCorps Education Award available upon successful completion of this position is expected to be ~$1,300. The award amount will be updated when AmeriCorps releases is 2022 award amounts.

It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance. 

Conditions of Employment
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.
  • Gateway Arch National Park is located in downtown St. Louis. It is a large urban area with public transportation nearby.
  • Interns will interact and network with park partners representing outdoor education in the St. Louis area. They will also participate in trainings and receive mentorship from the Education staff at the Gateway Arch.
  • St. Louis is known for its many cultural and recreational activities. Many are free or low cost. Forest Park is nearby and is home to the St. Louis Zoo, History Museum, and Science Center (all with free admission).
