The intern will assist with the developed recreation program by managing both developed and dispersed recreation activities on the district. Primary duties include restoration/rehabilitation work on recreation sites that have been damaged from overuse, as well as educating the public about Leave No Trace practices. Typically the intern will assist over 30 visitors daily.  The intern will also engage in restoration/ rehabilitation work to the recreation sites at Spotted Bear by cleaning and repairing campground sites, picnic tables, and park information kiosks, restoring damaged trailheads and river access sites, and rehabilitating the surrounding wildlife habitat by removing invasive plants within the park.

Compensation amounts:
  • $650 - one time RT travel allowance
  • USFS Housing
  • AmeriCorp eligible ($1,638 education award)

  • The remote Spotted Bear Ranger Station is located 55 miles from the nearest town of Hungry Horse, MT, at the head of the Hungry Horse Reservoir and at the confluence of the South Fork of the Flathead River and the Spotted Bear River. The Spotted Bear District recreation program includes campgrounds, trailheads, river access sites, dispersed campsites, one rental cabin, one fee campground, multiple developed campgrounds, and supporting other district programs (Wilderness, weeds, trails, stock, and fire.).
