Construction Management Interns

Position ID
Construction management intern to assist in the planning of projects and oversight of contractors performing preservation and conservation projects in the park.  They will assist park engineers review quality, schedule and costs on park projects.  

The park employs numerous contractors to fulfil the mission to maintain and restore the historic stone structures throughout the park.  The construction management interns will assist the park professional staff in reviewing the quality and schedule of the contractors performing tasks such as: hazardous tree removals along the trails, replacement of trail foot bridge over the historic Seneca Aqueduct, masonry repairs to Locks 19 and 17, and the placement of a trail bridge over Little Catoctin Creek.  The intern may also perform field work such as clearing brush from historic structures, measuring historic structures, documenting existing conditions of historic structures.  

  • One time travel allowance: $1,100
  • Weekly living allowance: $250
  • Weekly commuting allowance: $30
  • Monthly housing allowance: $1,000


  • These activates will be primarily in the Palisades Maintenance District of the C&O Canal, in the vicinity of Potomac Maryland, or may be at the Headquarters in Hagerstown, MD.
  • The Interns will be exposed to construction project management activities and skills.  They will be co-located at a site with Interpretative Rangers and can attend their programs.
