Position ID
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates, and presents education programs, on and off site, as part of the overall interpretive effort with a particular focus on carrying out community outreach to traditionally underrepresented communities.
  • Identifies short-term goals and uses contemporary methods and techniques to achieve them.
  • Participates in training workshops for educators and, community representatives.
  • Develops and maintains close working relationships with local groups, and individuals. Provides assistance by presenting workshops discussing the parks and ways for community members to be involved.
  • Assists schools and other organizations institutions in developing their own education programs.
  • Prepares and presents a variety of scheduled training programs designed to enhance park awareness within the staff.
  • Helps prepares and reviews publications and literature related to all interpretative activities including information brochures, traveling exhibits, curriculum material, newsletters, and evaluative materials to assure their proper relationships with unit policy and themes and appropriate techniques.
  • Prepares written reports, statistics, and correspondence pertaining to a variety of outreach-related concerns. Requisitions, maintains and inventories all equipment used in presenting outreach programs.
  • Completes progressively more difficult work assignments which expose them to various work situations and problems.
  • Gathers and reviews data related to existing and potential recreation resources, pertinent to natural and cultural resources, and general park planning from variety of sources.
  • Carries out the routine aspects of review and evaluation of project proposals. Assists in writing memoranda and correspondences.
  • May attend public hearings and/or other meetings involving a variety of park management policies and regulations, or citizen special interest groups.
  • Primarily Manhattan Project NHP in Oak Ridge, TN. Additional work at Obed W&SR in Wartburg, TN. Some work at Big South Fork NRRA in Oneida, TN
  • Intern will be provided training in interpretation and education methods and procedures. In addition, any training offered by the local NPS units will be available. This can range from CPR/first aid to high angle rescue.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to work with NPS rangers in three different locations providing them with invaluable learning opportunities. Recreational opportunities range from outdoor adventure sports to urban recreational facilities.
