The Coastal Resilience Intern supports and promotes nature-based solutions thru the development of learning networks to share information amongst practitioners internally and externally; and, helps develop strategic communications messages and materials to build the case for NBS.  The Coastal Resilience Intern also supports tool development to spur natural infrastructure and on-the-ground demonstration projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
  • May support tool development team consisting of staff, and federal, state and local partners.
  • Networks with diverse groups, including land owners, conservation partners, local government officials, and the general public to support the outreach goals of nature-based solutions.    
  • May work under minimal and/or distant supervision; may make some independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context. 
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS degree in community planning, natural resource planning or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with GIS.                   
  • Experience or familiarity with coastal flood maps and/or disaster planning management principles.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.                                         
 
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
  • 1 – 2 years related experience in custodial and ecological land management or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Ability to recognize Southeast coastal plain plant and animal species necessary for management activities.
  • Knowledge/understanding of current trends and practices in forestry, land management and natural resource preservation/conservation or similar field, especially in the Southeast.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers). 
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages
