Climate and Sustainability Intern - Facility Management

The selected intern will be responsible for multiple functions including:

- Conducting sustainability tracking and recording for the park.

- Managing the park’s Climate Friendly Parks program in conjunction with the Washington, DC Office.

- Researching and making recommendations for recycling and waste reduction practices.

This position will also involve historic project record management, as well as preparing, shipping, and tracking documents to be copied and digitized by the NPS team in Denver.

AmeriCorps award dependent on availabilty at time of selection.
  • George Washington Birthplace National Monument is a jewel on the Northern Neck of Virginia. Three of the first five U.S. presidents were born in this area, and there is a wealth of history here. Even though we are only 80 miles from DC, we remain rural. Fredericksburg is 30 miles away and has all major amenities. Colonial Beach is 10 miles away and has most necessities available.
  • The intern’s main focus will be sustainability and facility management . They will also cross train with some other divisions, and will have a working knowledge of the Park’s history and unique story.
  • Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, as well as boating opportunities. This area is rich in history as well.
