Crew will plant 500 trees in the Grand Calumet watershed within the Indiana communities of East Chicago, Hammond, Whiting, Gary, Highland, and Hobart. The crew will work closely with SCA and USDA Forest Service staff to recruit, develop, and support new and existing volunteers at these planting sites with a specific goal of increasing the number of individuals engaged in tree canopy stewardship in those communities.

Crew members are expected to attend SCA provided training to ensure safe and effective tree canopy conservation as well as training in basic digital mapping and data collection techniques. Members will be expected to engage with local community members and corporate partners in tree care at designated volunteer events, mostly on Saturday mornings. 

Crew will care for and maintain over 3,000 trees planted in previous program seasons throughout the aforementioned communities. This maintenance will consist of re-mulching, weeding, pruning, watering, checking for signs of disease, and updating iTree data reporting for each tree. 

The compensation for this role is: $12.50/hr

Conditions of Employment: Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Up to date vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.
