This position is to assist Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Senior Marine Resources Specialists in implementing projects to support  Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMP) with various tasks related to compliance with the SIKES Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Endangered Species Act , the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act and public education and outreach events related to environmental stewardship, particularly in the nearshore environment.  Tasks include: analysis of harbor seal haul-out images from time lapse camera data, develop and/or review outreach and educational materials and presentations, and
participate in environmental awareness outreach events (e.g.  Clean the Bay Day, Earth Day, Arbor Day, Navy Weeks, Fleet Weeks, School Events), analysis of fish behavior from underwater video footage, searching marine mammal databases and compiling sighting data and associated environmental data, review and/or write survey reports, conduct data entry and analysis, and develop associated maps.  Occasional field work including boat based surveys and beach activities are possible though infrequent.

This will be a part time position that will expect the incumbent to work 20 hours / week for 26 total weeks. 

This position provides:
- $175 weekly Living Allowance* (20 hours per week expected)
- $550 one-time round-trip Travel Allowance*

The AmeriCorps Education Award available upon successful completion of this position is $1,678.57. 

*All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance. 

There is no housing or housing allowance available for this position.

  • Generally using a laptop to analyze data in an office environment, outreach events would be on a Navy installation or in a public venue.
  • Training and mentorship by Senior Marine Resources Personnel, and attendance of various professional level on-line training and webinars and working team meetings.
