Assistant Volunteer Coordinator Intern (Local Candidate Needed)

You will assist in managing one of the largest volunteer programs in the NPS system -  recruiting volunteers, leading volunteer service projects, developing new and creative ways to use volunteers, and organizing the annual volunteer recognition dinners. In addition to providing overall support for the volunteer program, you will maintain the volunteer program website, contribute to the social media team by posting to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr, and maintain the volunteer database. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) is a plus.

The park will offer developmental opportunities for the intern by providing access to various NPS trainings. The park Volunteer Coordinator will serve as a mentor to the intern throughout the internship. This internship will provide hands-on training and career development opportunities, and the intern will be involved in coordinating volunteer projects that engage the community and improve the park for the visitors’ benefit.
This position will spend 80% of the time in the office working on volunteer management and recruitment. Field support with volunteer projects will comprise 20% of the position.

    Other major parks within a 1 to 2 hour ride include: Antietam Battlefield, Gettysburg Battlefield, Harpers Ferry Historical Park and Shenandoah National Park. C&O Canal is centrally located, with Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia all within a few hours drive.
