The NCTC Activities Liaison will be responsible for creating a continuous learning environment at NCTC by delivering interactive, recreational, and reflective activities that meet the diverse needs and interests of NCTC guests with the goal of complementing the classroom training and engaging guests throughout their stay at NCTC.  The expected outcomes will be the implementation of worthwhile experiences in networking, collaboration, team spirit, and health and wellness for guests with conservation backgrounds.  Activities will relate to conservation and supporting the mission of the FWS and NCTC.

NCTC Staff Liaison
  • Act as liaison with NCTC staff and contractors
  • Coordinates with NCTC staff to understand the mission and goal of each branch and to gain understanding of the different areas of expertise available onsite;
  • Conduct an analysis of activities that have been offered in the past, and consolidate the lessons learned and best practices; 
  • Identify and develop new activities based on NCTC staff feedback; 
  • Identify activities which leverage staff expertise and activities that may require contracted expertise.

Outreach Management

  • Develops an outreach strategy for reaching guests/audiences prior to their arrival onsite
  • Creating and designing the online content for the FWS-NCTC Sharepoint; 
  • Designing an online process for:
    •  Sharing activities in advance of arrival
    • Sharing activities with guests onsite
    • Guest sign-up
    • Access to, and place to submit, required forms or waivers
    • Sign-up confirmation
    •  Feedback mechanism

Logistics

  • Coordinates with SEM/TAB to create a calendar of activities appropriate to the audiences of the weekly onsite courses and events;
  • Identify wide variety of interactive, recreational, and reflective activities for guests;
  • Coordinates with appropriate NCTC experts to ensure activities meet their scheduling requirements and limitations;
  • Works with NCTC FO staff to ensure supplies and equipment are ordered, received and stored in time for planned activity;
  • Communicates and coordinates with supervisor and FO staff if activities require funding/contracted expertise:
    • Develop a working relationship with Friends Group;
    • Evaluate grant possibilities for funding.

Activity Implementation

  • Oversees the implementation of the activities onsite;
  • Promotes networking unity and spirit through various recreational activities appropriate for NCTC guests with a high degree of enthusiasm;
  • Routinely monitors safety conditions and reports any unsafe conditions;
  • Insures positive public relations and a high-level of responsiveness to the participants.

Calendar and Records Management

  • Develop a working knowledge of the NCTC 2-year calendar;
  • Works with the supervisor to ensure that programs and policies are in accordance with those of the NCTC and FWS; 
  • Maintains various logs and records as assigned and required by the NCTC; 
  • Ensures all participant paperwork is complete and on file at site; 
  • Responsible for maintaining records of activity-related costs and purchases;
  • Notifies supervisor of any unusual situations involving injuries, accidents, or emergencies with participants or staff.

Compensation: 

  • $645 / week living allowance
  • Shepherdstown, WV
  • NCTC is a conservation training center so the member will have access to all the courses onsite and will coordinate their interests with their supervisor.
  • The member will have the opportunity to participate in as many outdoor and indoor conservation related activities as they can help set up. Current activities in place include kayaking, historical lectures/movies, archive tours, evening activities.
