The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is offering prescribed fire corps crew member positions in Alexandria, LA from Jan 9 - Apr 28, 2023. Four crew members will work under a crew leader to assist with prescribed burns working with the U.S. Forest Service. When conditions are not ideal for burning, members will assist the partner with other projects including vegetation removal, fire line preparation, equipment maintenance, and other work duties. In addition, members will receive job training, personal development, and natural resource management skills while working with these partners.

By accepting this position, you are committing to train for and pass the arduous pack test, which is a requirement of the program. This includes walking 3 miles with a 45-pound weighted vest in under 45 minutes. Members that do not pass the pack test will be dismissed from the program.

In addition, prescribed burning is condition-dependent and members may be required to work long hours and/or weekends depending on direction from the partner. Members will not work more than 80 hours over a two week period.

Conditions of Employment
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to provide proof of up to date vaccination against COVID-19. Per CDC guidance, up to date vaccination now includes all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when indicated. For example, if someone has completed the primary series but is not yet indicated for a booster shot, they are considered up to date.
