Join a team of 5 local young adults to conduct invasive plant species removal, trail and boardwalk creation and maintenance, prescribed burn preparation, and other activities. Team members will receive certifications and opportunities for future leadership and career opportunities in coastal habitat restoration.

Position Dates: Members will serve a total of 8 months, start and end date varies depending on when members were hired. Tentative dates for the new hires will be  October 10th, 2022- June 2nd, 2023. 


The Student Conservation Association’s GulfCorps team is focused on providing young adults opportunities to grow competitive skills in the field of natural resource management to prepare them to move into jobs with our project partners after their term of service. Our partners include The US Fish &Wildlife Service, The National Park Service, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, and other national, state, or local environmental agencies. Skills will include hands on conservation work experience, professional development trainings, and nationally recognized certifications.

This is a paid position with weekday hours (Mon-Thurs, 8A - 5P and Fri 8A - 230P). Projects will last between a week and a month. A variety of projects will be performed in cooperation with various federal, state, and local partners, on numerous conservation projects across the Texas coast. A weekly living allowance of $520 will be provided as well as an AmeriCorps education award of $4,546.50 
Food and housing are provided during work projects.


Work will mostly be outdoors and will sometimes require heavy lifting and using equipment such as chainsaws. Team members will work under two team leaders that will serve as SCA’s supervisors. All team members are expected to be respectful, on-time, hard working, and aware of conditions to ensure a safe working environment.

Preference will be given to applicants that are interested in pursuing an environmental career and those that are local to southern Texas and/or the Gulf coast.

Professional Development Opportunities
Team members will have the opportunity to meet and work alongside partners from numerous environmental agencies in coastal Texas. Professional opportunities such as leadership development, risk management, resume building, and career advancement will also be available. The goal of this program is to place members in environmental careers at the end of the 8-month position. 

This position qualifies for an AmeriCorps Education Award.

It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.

Conditions of Employment
Required to demonstrate full vaccination status for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with a food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized or FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine.
