Career Discovery Internship Program (CDIP) – Conservation Diversity Initiative
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) has partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to provide summer internships for first & second year college students from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
USFWS Career Discovery Internship Program (CDIP) is a 13-week, full time, paid summer work opportunity for students with an interest in the conservation industry, who are of Alaskan Native, American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, or of other racial minority descent.
High-performing interns will have the opportunity to be exposed to widespread geographic locations, a variety of work assignments and tasks, as well as, have the opportunity to be enrolled in USFWS student hiring programs.

Eligibility:
- US Citizens or Permanent Residents
- First and Second Year college students academic year 2021-2022
- Some positions in this program will require you to have access to a personal vehicle during your internship.
- Available to serve in the Southeast, Midwest, Northeast, or Alaska: May or early June to August 2022
- Required to demonstrate full vaccination status for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized or FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine
Program Details:
- Internships take place at U.S. Fish and Wildlife field stations throughout the country
- Internships are 13 weeks long during the summer
- Internship Areas of focus include: visitor services, natural resources management, and refuge management
- Participate in a week-long orientation session to kick off your internship

Conditions of Employment
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.

Internships will be located throughout the US.

CDIP Members will participate in a week long, expense-paid orientation at the beginning of their internship. Members also receive hands on training specific to their internship tasks at their service location.

All CDIP interns will be assigned a mentor within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for professional development and support during their service.
